PWL Welcomes Cheryl Bouwmeester as Partner

As PWL enters its next 50 years, we’re proud to welcome Cheryl Bouwmeester, MBCSLA, OALA, CSLA, CCPI, as Partner!
Cheryl brings nearly 20 years of experience and a breadth of expertise that spans design, technical delivery, construction, client care, and engagement. At PWL, she has led projects ranging from beloved community parks and vibrant streetscapes to the landscapes of entire new neighbourhoods. Across that work, she has built strong relationships with clients who value her professionalism, practical knowledge and calm, considered leadership.
Cheryl sees every project as an opportunity to learn, carrying knowledge between scales and project types to inform the next design challenge. Her experience spans the full life of a project, from early visioning and design through documentation and construction. As one of PWL’s leading resources for construction and quality management, Cheryl brings an exceptional understanding of how design decisions translate into built work. That knowledge informs her approach from the beginning of a project, helping teams develop ideas with construction, performance, maintenance and long-term use in mind.
For clients and project teams, that means practical guidance as projects move from ideas into implementation. She understands what can be built, how details will perform and where challenges may arise, while keeping the larger design vision in focus.
Cheryl’s curiosity about how landscape architects can reduce the environmental impacts of construction leads her to look for opportunities to make better material choices, reuse and adapt what already exists, and consider maintenance and replacement from the outset. She is interested in how the landscapes we design can respond to changing community needs while making better use of existing places and resources.
Cheryl brings the same level of care to leading people. Over the last decade, she has helped establish stronger internal support networks, create more opportunities for mentorship and professional growth, and improve how teams communicate, and share knowledge. She also leads a number of PWL practice standards, bringing her technical knowledge and attention to quality to work across the studio.
As a Partner, Cheryl will continue to invest in the people behind PWL’s work. She sees PWL as a place where designers and landscape architects can develop expertise around their own interests, learn from one another, test ideas and continue growing throughout their careers.
That commitment to learning extends to Cheryl herself. She continues to expand her own knowledge and brings the same curiosity to her relationships with clients, consultants, contractors and colleagues, recognizing that everyone at the table has something to contribute.
As we celebrate 50 years of PWL, Cheryl joins the Partnership with the trust of her clients and colleagues, deep knowledge of how landscapes are designed and built, and a clear commitment to our practice. We are excited to have her leading PWL into its next 50 years!
