Minoru Centre for Active Living
The Minoru Centre for Active Living is a major civic and recreational facility in Richmond, bringing together aquatic, fitness, and community spaces within the broader landscape of Minoru Park. The project creates a multi-generational destination that supports health, wellness, and everyday social life.
Working with the project team, PWL led the landscape architecture design, shaping outdoor spaces that extend the building into the park and connect interior and exterior uses. Plazas, pathways, and gathering areas organize movement across the site, creating a clear and accessible relationship between the facility and the surrounding park.
The landscape draws from the region’s river delta conditions, informing both grading and planting strategies. Subtle shifts in topography and a layered planting palette reflect the character of the delta landscape while supporting seasonal change and long-term ecological resilience.
Outdoor spaces accommodate a range of uses, from informal gathering and rest to circulation and community activity. These spaces support daily use while reinforcing the site’s role as a central destination within Minoru Park.
The project brings together architecture, landscape, and public life, creating a connected and accessible environment that supports wellness across generations.
